Scaling & Root Planing

Scaling and root planing is used for gum disease treatment.  This approach to cleaning gum pockets requires the use of ultrasonic devices and handheld instruments only available at dentists’ offices such as Kohli Dental.    The dentist might use a local anesthetic or topical agent to numb the appropriate section of the mouth prior to the scaling and root planing.  The tartar and plaque are scraped away in the scaling component of the process.  The scraping occurs both below and above the gum line, reaching down into the gum pocket.
