Occlusal Adjustment
The occlusal or bite adjustment procedure eliminates interference from teeth, treating the malocclusion, bad bite, misaligned teeth, crooked teeth or other oral health issues. A bite adjustment might also be necessary if the teeth fail to close as they should, ultimately preventing bruxism, TMD or worse. If your teeth are misaligned, the dentist will advise an occlusal adjustment procedure. An occlusal adjustment makes it that much easier to chew through food and maintain the optimal oral health moving forward.
Occlusal adjustment alters tooth surfaces, ensuring they contact one another in a non-destructive way. The teeth are shaped and ground for the optimal surface, removing interference and aligning the bite for comfort and functionality.
The occlusal adjustment procedure requires that the patient bite down on specialized dental paper. The colored paper reveals bite marks to show how the teeth contact one another. If the bite marks reveal the bite is unhealthy, the problematic areas are addressed, creating a smoother surface that makes it comfortable to bite into food and also prevent fractures and cracks down the line.
