Biopsy
Biopsies are commonly associated with the skin. However, biopsies of the mouth are also performed at Kohli Dental in Daytona Beach, Florida. Oral biopsies collect a sample of tissue. The extracted tissue is analyzed for abnormalities. Our dentist takes the biopsy from lesions, growth or lumps within the mouth. The biopsy technique differs based on the formation or site of the tissue in question. If a lesion is detected on the gums, a biopsy will be taken yet obtaining that sample might require surgery.
Biopsy techniques range from brush biopsies in which the surface of abnormalities is scraped for cellular samples to percutaneous biopsies in which a biopsy needle is inserted into the skin to extract a tissue sample and more. Biopsies of the excisional variety are performed on diminutive lumps or growths that are easy to access. Incisional biopsies extract samples after local anesthetic is applied so a segment of the tissue can be analyzed. If you know or suspect there is a lump, lesion, sore or other problem in your mouth, don’t hesitate to ask for assistance. Our Daytona Beach dentist is available at (386) 255-8866.
